Find out why seafarers need your support

New small grants scheme goes live

5th Jan 2010

Seafarers UK has launched a new small grants scheme for charities wanting a grant of £5000 or less. The money can be used to fund for projects, schemes or activities that involve seafarers, ex-seafarers or their families. The funding is for work that supports people who have been in the Royal Navy, Royal Marines, Merchant Navy or fishing fleets and their families. Charities that sometimes help UK or Commonwealth seafarers or their families are welcome to apply if they can demonstrate that the grant would support current or ex-seafarers or their families.

The small grants scheme is permanently open so organisations can apply for a grant of up to £5,000 in any single twelve month period. The grants team aims to give applicants a decision within twelve weeks of receiving an application. Applying for a small grant involves filling in an application form that can be downloaded from the Seafarers UK website.  Guidelines for applicants are also downloadable from the website.

Seafarers UK’s Head of Grants Dennis Treleaven said:

“This small grants scheme will make it much easier for organisations that are seeking grants under £5000. It means they will no longer have to wait for the main grants programme to open each year and are able to get a funding decision sooner. It will enable seafaring charities to respond to the welfare needs of the maritime community and make sure seafarers and their families get the help they need.”
